Essence

promise

In the shell of a conch
Where the sea whispers its story
In freshly falling dew
Onto cactus and flowers alike
I see the essence of who you are

Your true nature
the rough side of a high mountain
the temperature of fresh rain
that’s seeped through lightening
the anger of a battering ram
the unmet urge of a monk
n the way to reaching sainthood,

Your essence
the size of the limitless
as small as me, as big as my soul
as courageous, as tentative
as tender, as tough
as acutely sensitive
and as humanly cruel
as I am, you are.

I am your infinite mirror
As you are mine
And in our mirroring love rests
Every day is a search
Of something astounding
In the shimmering seas of Is-ness

  1. This poem is so passionate; it screams at me to be read aloud! I feel the words on my tongue and I see myself in this situation and I imagine I know exactly what you mean, but in the context of my world and reality. Beautifully done!

    • Dear Hidinginthelibrary, here’s a big thank you for your heartfelt comment! I had in mind how we somehow “get” the essence of some people we love in a fragrance sort of way..almost like having smelled a familiar whiff and then all that it does to our insides thereafter. Btw your posts are as interesting as your profile name!
